I've seen the term tossed around from many people on this site and I'm genuinely interested. I have an idea but would appreciate input from others. This isn't the kind of term I can look up in the dictionary. For now, I'm most interested in the "what" of affiliate marketing. I'll post later with a question about the "how to".

Hi Mike.

Affiliate marketing is where you get paid for promoting other people's products or services.

A typical arrangement is something like this:

You sign up to be an "affiliate" for Product X.

The creator of Product X will give you a unique identifier which you will then use to promote his product.

When someone purchases Product X from your link you earn a commission.

Commissions vary from 1% to over 100%.

Just like what James has explained, you earn commission
by sending visitors to the owner's product site with your
affiliate link, and when the visitors buy the products,
you get the commission.

The most reliable & successful affiliate program is
Clickbank.com , you can become a free affiliate and
promote thousands products in different fields

There are many types of affiliate program, e.g. 1 tier
2 tiers or multiple tiers (like network marketing/MLM)

Clickbank.com only offers 1 tier affiliate plan.

For 2 tiers or multilevel affiliate program, you can
earn money from your sub-affiliate/downlines efforts,
which mean if your downlines get the sales, you are
also eligle to earn some commission!

And, there are two types of pay plan, one time or
monthly residual. If the product you promote is a
subscription based, then you can earn the residual
income each month as long as your customers renew
their membership every month ... this is the income
source I love as I only do one time job and get paid
every month (that's the passive income!)

If you would like to get started in affiliate marketing, I would suggest promoting products in clickbank.com or cj.com, as they offer products with high conversion rate, which means that the products are high-quality.

Affiliate marketing is a great way to start a seriously high paying business when you have little money. Its even better if you have some marketing capital. Even if just a little bit. I make a large full time income from just one product on Clickbank. Not to mention all the other products I promote.

You should look more into it...

Hey Savvy,

You have gotten some great info so far...

I would definitely suggest you start off with http://www.Clickbank.com because...

1. They sell ONLY "info products" which have the highest profitability because there is usually a very low/no cost to reproduce an "info product... Whcih means commissions as high as 75%.

2. Unlike http://www.CJ.com and other CPA Networks you DO NOT have to get "manually approved" for certain programs. Once you create an acccount with Clickbank you will be able to promote any product within the Clickbank Market place.

3. They have productin just about any category so no matter what your passion/likes are you will be able to turn your Passion into Profits.

I agree, try starting with clickbank. You may also want to do a google search on "bum marketing". It tells you how to start affiliate marketing without paying to advertise.
