Jessica,
I understand your frustration. Been there and done that. Your family and friends are considered warm because they know you, but when it comes to MLM they are not warm at all.
The first thing you must do is find out who your target audience is. Narrow in a a group or subgroup of people and then get your offer in front of them. This is not an easy task and most people give up before they even start.
The biggest problem with MLM is that everybody focuses on the income opportunity but not the product. Before you try to market to another person I want you to take a good hard look at what you are selling and ask these questions:
-
What do you have? Does the product sove a problem, fill a need or want, etc. If it doesn't your dead in the water. If it does but there are other products doing the same or better for less then you are still dead in the water.
-
How does it benefit your customer? The income opportunity does not count here. Every MLM has the latest greatest opportunity to make money. Who cares!!! How will the product benefit me? Is it health related like some super juice or pills? Legal help like Prepaid Legal, cheap cell phone time, etc. The benefit you offer must be worth every penny without the income opportunity or it simply will not fly. It is important to realize there is a difference between the features of a product and the benefits of it. Supermega Algea may have more nutrients then any other algae on the market, be flown in from a secret location in South America and is only available through your company... ...who cares??? People who have used Supermega Algea have experienced an increase in mental accuity, improved immune system, etc. Features are worthless. Benefits sell

What should your prospoect do next? If you have successfully passed the first 2 tests then this part is easy. This is your call to action... ...join your downline, sign up for monthly delivery, etc
I would recommend that you spend some time learning about how to build a list, SEO, intergrating blogging, social media, youtube, etc. I am still learning this stuff myself but I am more then happy to share what I have learned.
In a nutshell, you want to accomplish two things. First you need to establish yourself as an expert in your field. Second, you want to build a know you, like you, trust you, realtionship with your prospects. If you come out of the gates just trying to sell to them they will run for the hills. If you give them something of value related to your product and they benefit from it you establish yourself as an expert and build trust at the same time. This takes time and effort. It is not a quick road, but if you build your list in this manner you will eventually reach your goals and far beyond... ..at least that is what I have read many times from several sources. I am not there yet, but I am working on it.
