"The secret of getting ahead is getting started." --Mark Twain
We all have goals we'd like to accomplish. But most of them never become more than a goal. The reason? We don't get started.
Take a moment to think about the goals on your to-do list. Maybe you'd like to learn a second language. Or start a charitable organization. Or start investing. Your goals may be personal or professional. They may involve your health, your money, or your relationships.
Of all those "like-to's" on your list, which ones are really, truly important? What goals, if accomplished, would positively impact your life in a big way?
Do you have at least one goal that could make a big difference in your life? Great. Now GET STARTED.
Even if your goal is an ambitious one, chances are you can break it down into smaller, more manageable pieces. And remember that really good goals require that we stretch, that we step outside of our comfort zones and meet a challenge. If your goal is truly important in your life, then it is worth the discomfort you may experience as you get started.
For many women (and men for that matter), investing is a big, intimidating goal. But remember this: every successful investor started out in the same place - knowing nothing about investing. So don't let fear stop you. Start at the beginning and increase your financial IQ by learning about an investment that interests you. Then go out and buy your first asset. Limit your risk by buying smart and starting small. Keep investing and learn as you go. Before you know it, you'll be the experienced investor that others ask for advice. But you'll never get there unless you get started now.
