The Quitter Generation?

Financial Freedom Comes with How You Handle Adversity

Are we training our kids today to be quitters? Are we teaching them when a tough problem arises or when things don’t go as planned, to simply quit?

How often in your life would you like a “do-over”? “Wow, I really screwed up on that, I think I’ll take a do-over and start again.” Wouldn’t that be handy?

Enter the “reset button”. Many of the video games you and your kids are playing come equipped with a reset button. When you’re about to lose, can’t figure out how to get to the next level, or the solution to the puzzle takes too much brain power, what do you do? You hit the reset button – you quit and start again. The reset button makes quitting easy… over and over and over.

Are we programming our kids to accept quitting as an acceptable answer to life’s problems?

“Children who learn to bounce back and not let setbacks get them down have gained a valuable skill for life,” says Michele Borba, psychologist and author of the Today.com article, “How Not to Raise a Quitter. “If our children are to succeed in this competitive world, they must learn to hang in there and not quit.”

We all know there is no reset button in real life, so what happens when life kicks you in the butt? We all have different coping mechanisms, ways to handle adversity, stress and challenges. Quitting is not a way to cope. It is a way to avoid and run away from your problems. It’s a way to not be accountable for your life. And it’s not the way to obtain financial freedom.

It’s handling the pressures, the difficulties and the setbacks that make you who you are.

Triumphing against bad odds is invaluable. Overcoming great obstacles makes you stronger and smarter. How one handles adversity determines a person’s level of success in life.

Do you take it on, create new solutions and face your fears… or do you reach for the reset button that, oh I forgot, doesn’t exist in real life. Now you’re really screwed.

How do you keep on going when you want to quit? Please let me know below.

Its very true - Quitters can't win any game, so what its video game or life... As a quitter one has to always start from beginning, on the other hand, if we don't quit and just restrategise our approach to the problem then we are already in the midway or some point closer to success from which we can achieve success sooner.... Thanks for this Blog Kim.... Keep posting. :)

All the worrying and stress are not going to make the problems go away. Changin the mind to " 100 years from now, no one really cared what happened. Landscape would change, people die and all the problems are really, just temperrally. So why worry and stress over them." Then, it makes it easier for teh mind to find solutions for every problem in teh world. Well, at least to me. That's how it always had worked. Mind set: when the sky falls, the taller people catch it. If not, they go first. So, who cares.

I use motivational things like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_Cvz_Bfue4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FozhZHuAcCs and in 'rich dad, poor dad' there's a subject about thinking with your brains (reason) instead of thinking by your emotions, which striked me... always think: HOW can I achieve my goal. I disregarded the feeling of quitting when I started minding my own business, our own business. Nevertheless, when I feel discouraged I pray, cry if needed and keep repeating that all this hard work one day will pay off... cause if I stop it will only get worse. Going back to work for someone else is not an option cause I know that no body will take care of our interests better than us. We are all human's thus we have our moments. I constantly talked to people who are more successful than us and ask them about how they handle these moments of discouragement... and hearing about it from them is big help and a huge inspiration (very important: avoid seeking moral support with people who are not like-minded). I consider the tough times as a tool from God (and life) to take us to the next level up, to become a better entrepreneur and investor. In this world they are sharks who need to eat fish... what do you want to be? ... In few words: prayers, reflexions and inspiration from mentors is what really helps me.

Yes, life is about how we handle our emotions. But we have to manage our mentality once we realized there's something wrong; and learn by making mistakes and it's all about it, the key word is "learning".

Honey Bees make honey, Winners Win and Quitters Quit. We live in a culture where 505% of med students quit in the first semester, about 50% of people quit life's most significant commitment - marriage. We can choose to focus on why people quit or we can focus on why people succeed. Live With Intention, Dr Bill TothCom/blog

I used to think I was not a quitter. After working the same job for 30 years, riding a struggling small part time business to the bitter end in spite of my instinct to cut losses and bail out, or swallowing my pride after each failed relationship that I refused to give up on but the other person had quit, I had convinced myself that I was no quitter. Enter stage left, the reality check which at age 55 was slow in coming but then some of us take a long time to get it. I had to confront the grim truth that I had quit learning a long time ago. Oh sure I had crammed innumerable bits of flotsam and jetsam "knowledge" into the leaky sponge between my ears over the years, but what had I learned from it? How to be an insane person and continue doing the same things expecting a different result? Yup, I reckon that t-shirt belongs to me alright. So to answer your question Kim, what I am doing to keep on going when I want to quit: GET SMARTER! Thanks in large part to one of Rich Dad's programs, "Choose to Be Rich" Coaching, which I am near completing, I'm beginning to realize the solution to the problem of quitting and how to keep going but with better results. Thank you and Robert for sharing your insight with us and remaining true to your gifts of generousity and education. J. Chris Handegard Grasshopper Investing LLC

Good article Kim, I agree. When I was in business school one of the strange behaviors of the students that were attending is when their overall grade would drop below a B in the course they would drop the class instead of seeing the class too the very end. In my opinion that is pathetic. Best Regards, Nathan Conner "The guy you call when you are ready to take control back." www.workwithnathanconner.com
