I used to think I was not a quitter. After working the same job for 30 years, riding a struggling small part time business to the bitter end in spite of my instinct to cut losses and bail out, or swallowing my pride after each failed relationship that I refused to give up on but the other person had quit, I had convinced myself that I was no quitter. Enter stage left, the reality check which at age 55 was slow in coming but then some of us take a long time to get it. I had to confront the grim truth that I had quit learning a long time ago. Oh sure I had crammed innumerable bits of flotsam and jetsam "knowledge" into the leaky sponge between my ears over the years, but what had I learned from it? How to be an insane person and continue doing the same things expecting a different result? Yup, I reckon that t-shirt belongs to me alright.
