What is Financial Freedom?

As you work towards your goals this year, you may have already run into some challenges. Well, congratulations! This is part of the valuable, learning process in achieving your dream… but this is only the beginning of your journey to financial freedom, and …

What is financial freedom?

Financial freedom is much more than having money. It’s the freedom to be who you really are and do what you really want in life. And many of us, especially women, lose site of this by putting others first and playing many different roles such as parent, spouse, employee, friend, and more.

If you want to be financially-free, you need to become a different person than you are today and let go of whatever has held you back in the past. It’s a process of growth, improvement and gaining spiritual and emotional strength to become the most powerful, happy, and successful “you” possible. That is the true reward of financial freedom.

Money Does Not Make You Rich.

Just because you have money does not mean you have financial freedom. In It’s Rising Time!, I talk about how people like Ed McMahon from The Tonight Show and Nicole Murphy, the ex-wife of actor Eddie Murphy, had millions of dollars and lost it all. Nicole Murphy spent her $15-million divorce settlement in less than four years. And towards the end of his life, Ed McMahon faced foreclosure on his Beverly Hills home and owed $747,000 in credit-card debt.

Both of these examples illustrate that even if you have a lot of money, if you don’t know what to do with it, it will be gone.

And ladies, do any of these statements sound familiar?

  • I will find a rich man to take care of me.
  • I don’t want to deal with finances and will ignore it.
  • I’ll take the easy road today and deal with the consequences in the future.

If so, you are not alone as these are common choices women make. But if you don’t take financial matters into your own hands, your chances of having a secure, financial life are slim. The good news is that it’s not rocket science.

You can take control of your situation, no matter what it is, and enjoy financial freedom.

Enjoying the rewards of financial freedom is simply a matter of increasing your financial education and determining where you are now financially and where you want to go.

To start your journey, check out the Triple A Triangle™ from It’s Rising Time! I’ve broken down the process into three, easy-to-understand areas that include: Aspire to achieve a goal, Acquire knowledge and Apply what you’ve learned to be successful.

I know it can be scary to make change happen, but think about it: if you don’t take action now, what does your financial future really look like?

I had a breakthrough after reading just this short section. As a kid, I played mudpie "bakery" where I make-believe sold my goods. Then when I wanted to try a lemonade stand for real at age 10, my perfectionistic mom made it so hard I gave up. So today I went back to being 10 and roughed out my lemonade stand plan, and even added home- grown fruits we had on our land, plus fruit smoothies. In my mind I changed my past internally. The inner barrier to real-life success was planted in that failure to try, whether it worked or not would have been less important. I have a plan to proceed in the real estate area of gas & oil that I had been afraid to pursue, but now I am moving ahead. I took heed to your advice to set a goal to add one asset to my asset column this year. Thanks so much.

Great post! There is such a misconception that the higher the income, the more wealth. How untrue! 15 million dollars vanished in 4 years? That's just crazy. I have my copy of It's Rising Time and am starting it this weekend. I'm excited to check out the Triple A Triangle. Thank you for continuing to enlighten, educate and empower us!

Hi Kim, Great post and this is just the kind of information and encouragement people need right now, To become free is to start following your own plan with the guidance of highly respected mentors and start living by example and not by design - exactly everything the rich dad company offers. I've re tweeted this on twitter too - Spreading the wealth knowledge! ;-)

Hi Kim, this is Mark David Madden.. How true financial freedom is to become unencumbered from those things that keep you from living out You. But, before any reader jumps the gun , or misinterprets what is being said in an "Occupy Wall Street " kind of way. If being you is "Putting others first" financial freedom is the ability and resources to put others needs first, and having the time to do it.I have told the government in my talks with them; people who have , can give. People with nothing can give nothing. You are no obligated to be selfish and parasitic with your riches; you can lead an example of " How Things Should Be"...

Thanks love kim and kudos mark for throwing more light on the topic. The natural consequence of financial education to me now is financial freedom. Maybe the term financial misleads most to think in terms only of the money aspect of the big picture. Please keep the posts for we are poised and set to ride the waves home. Thank the great spirit for you kim and robert.
